Assyrian American National Federation (AANF)
The Assyrian American National Federation (AANF) was founded in 1933, driven by the massacres of Assyrians in Iraq. On October 19, 1933, the National Emergency Committee held a general meeting in New Jersey, leading to the first convention in Yonkers, New York. On November 19, 1933, a second convention in Connecticut resulted in the adoption of the constitution and bylaws, with Captain Alex Ameer elected as the first president. In 1958, the organization was renamed and formally incorporated in New York in 1962. Since 1982, it has operated under its current name, fostering Assyrian unity in the U.S.
